The highlight of Murchison falls national park are the Murchison falls themselves which are known to be the biggest falls in the world. However, beside the falls Murchison falls is also a home to various other wildlife including 4 out of the 5 big five of Africa which include lions, leopards, elephants and cape buffalo. You will also be able to witness several antelopes, different bird species among others. The park is also a home to the endangered chimpanzees which can be tracked at the park extension of Budongo forest. Therefore, you will be exploited by several options during your stay at this magnificent park.
A DETAILED ITINERARY FOR YOUR 2 DAYS MURCHISON SAFARI
Day 1: Kampala to Murchison Falls National Park (Boat Cruise)
After taking your break fast in the morning, you will depart to Murchison Falls National Park with your guide. The park is Uganda’s biggest park famously known worldwide for its impressive waterfalls. The journey is approximately a 6 to 7 hours drive from Kampala to Murchison falls national park.
After your arrival, you will eat lunch and relax for some time. Then in the late afternoon take a boat ride upstream on the serene Victoria Nile to the base of the falls. Along the way, you’ll spot waterbuck, crocodiles, hippos, and a variety of birds, including the odd shoe-bill stork. The boat pulls up a few meters from the “Devil’s Cauldron” so that the picturesque and impressive Murchison Falls can be photographed.
Day 2: Game drive and pass via Ziwa Rhino sanctuary as you return to Kampala
Early in the morning, after breakfast, you will set out for your sunrise game drive on the Nyamsika plateau, as you view a number of animals such as waterbucks, Rothschild’s giraffes, Cape buffaloes, Uganda Kob, and hartebeest.
You can still sport the oribis, bushbuck, Bohor reedbuck, shy sitatunga, bush duiker, warthog and bush pig plus large carnivores including lions, leopards and spotted hyenas. Crocodiles and hippos will be seen along the banks of the Nile.
Expect to view various bird species such as Egyptian geese, pelican, bee-eaters, kingfishers, hornbill, cormorant, saddle-bill stork and the rare shoebill stork. After the game drive, embark on returning back to Kampala but you will need to make a stop over at Ziwa rhino sanctuary. En route lunch will be taken in Masindi, then proceed to Ziwa Rhino sanctuary for rhino tracking, as you drive back to Kampala.
